Repurposed with Purpose
The materials we collect are repurposed rather than recycled.
What we take and why
ReMida collects discarded items that are either clean and unused and supplied by our industry collection partners or a small array of used craft-based items that individuals and families can donate from home. By using non-traditional materials in education and arts programs, children, educators and the community are challenged to look at discarded objects from a range of different perspectives.
Materials we love
We love materials that can easily make their way into a classroom setting, or an artist's studio, with a minimal handling by staff and volunteers.
Examples include:
-
Cardboard tubes (but not toilet rolls)
-
Foam offcuts
-
Fabric
-
Paper
-
Artifical grass
-
Interesting containers
-
Stationary
-
Art and craft supplies

-
Beads
-
Jewlery wire
-
Plastic widgets
-
Wood (but not treated pine)
-
Pool cover (unused)
-
Jigsaw puzzles
-
Pencil sets, artist paints
-
Art and craft supplies
Before considering whether you should donate an item, ask yourself, "Can I see this being used in a classroom setting"?
If you're not sure, a great way to start is with a photo and an email. This allows the collection team to see the item and better support your repurposing efforts.
